Kavana's Mission

Our mission is to support whole-person healing through highly skilled Medical Massage Therapy and intentional therapeutic care. Whether it’s to relieve chronic pain, restore function, or elevate quality of life, we provide clinically informed personalized care that bridges the gap between medicine and wellness.

Vision

Kavana is a medical massage and whole-person wellness practice. We work with people dealing with pain, injury, surgery, illness and physical dysfunction, but we also work with people who simply want to feel and function better in their bodies.
Our therapists have advanced training in anatomy, physiology, pathology and specialized forms of manual therapy. We take the time to understand your medical history, what you are experiencing now and what may be contributing to it. We assess before we treat, and the work we do can often complement care you are already receiving from your physician, dentist, physical therapist or other healthcare provider.
But there is another part of this work that I believe matters just as much.
You have to pay attention to the person in front of you.
You have to listen to what they tell you, observe what their body is doing and pay attention to what you feel beneath your hands. A diagnosis gives us important information, but it doesn't tell us everything about the person experiencing it.
This is one of the places where I think massage and manual therapy can contribute something very special to healthcare. We have time with people. We touch them. We feel how their bodies respond. And when that information is combined with good training and thoughtful clinical reasoning, it can tell us a great deal.

Science, intuition and intention

I have tremendous respect for Western medicine and what it has taught us about the human body, disease, injury and recovery. I also have tremendous respect for what a well-trained therapist can learn through observation, experience and skilled hands.
I don't think we have to choose between the two.
Kavana has always drawn from both.
We want our therapists to understand the science behind what they are doing and to think critically about the body in front of them. But I also want them to remain curious, observant and intuitive. Sometimes what you feel beneath your hands leads you to ask a better question. Sometimes what a client tells you changes the direction of the session. Sometimes the body simply doesn't follow the textbook.
Our goal is not to replace medical care. It is to expand what excellent hands-on care can contribute to it

The Kavana approach

Every treatment begins with listening and assessment. From there, we decide what makes sense for that person on that day.
Sometimes the work is very clinical and targeted. Sometimes we need to slow down and help the nervous system settle. Sometimes our goal is better movement or less pain. And sometimes a person who has been through illness, surgery or a difficult physical experience simply needs to feel safe and comfortable in their body again.
Most often, good treatment includes more than one of these things.
That is why Kavana has never been about one technique or modality. Techniques are tools. What matters is knowing which tool to use, when to use it, and why.
After more than two decades of caring for people through pain, recovery, illness, pregnancy, surgery, stress and change, the philosophy behind Kavana is actually quite simple:
Treat the person, not simply the condition.
Medically informed therapeutic touch. Whole-person care. Intentionally delivered.
That is Kavana.
